The opening of the ECOHIVE Academy in Marsascala last Sunday was attended by hundreds of people, the Environment Ministry said.
The aim of this centre is to grow awareness about the circular economy and the process of converting waste into resources. Children had the opportunity to learn about this process through augmented reality, digital games, and interactive exhibits that can be found in the centre.
The centre is split into zones, with each area focusing on different aspects of the waste management process that forms a part of the ECOHIVE project. Children were given a tablet at the entrance, which with the use of QR codes in each zone, they could play digital games and learn more information about waste processing.
For this opening, the attending families also got to benefit from a number of activities at the Family Park of Marsascala. Aside from the traditional games and activities, the children also met with the three mascots of WasteServ – General Buzz, Commander Yellow, and the Garbage Monster. There was also a show featuring the dogs of the K-9 Section from the Cordin Corrective Facility, as well as appearances from participants from MasterChef Malta.
This Open Day was attended by the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Regeneration of the Grand Harbour Miriam Dalli, who met with the families exploring ECOHIVE Academy.
