Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech on Thursday commended people who derive from Labour-supporting families and are planning on voting for the Nationalist Party’s candidates in the upcoming elections.
Grech said that he has been approached by several people who come from PL-oriented households that shared their intention to vote for the Nationalist Party’s candidates in the two elections on 8 June.
“These are the heroes of our times,” Grech said in a radio interview on NET FM this afternoon.
Grech also told listeners that “I know for certain that an ex-PL MP is going to vote for PN.” He added that this is not an isolated case and that “there are others for sure.”
In this regard, the PN leader labelled these people as “Labourites who are putting the country first” due to their marked interest to vote for his party.
The Opposition leader discussed the importance of the number of votes that his party attains in relation to the Prime Minister and his actions.
“The gap between the parties on 8 June is going to have an effect,” he said, “the power went to Robert Abela’s head after he won the 2022 general election by the margin that was.”
Grech detailed that Prime Minister Abela has been saying “unfounded things that have never been said before by a [Maltese] Prime Minister” and said that if the Labour Party wins big this June, “then he will feel more empowered” to continue his actions. After labelling Abela as politically compromised, he said that “there must be consequences when a high-profile individual does not fulfil their duties.”
“Today, Robert Abela no longer has the moral authority or the control to lead his party or the country,” Grech said, calling it a “the greatest tragedy in our country.”
According to Bernard Grech, “this depends on the people to use their vote” and try to elect the listed candidates from his Nationalist Party. He stated that Prime Minister Abela is going to take note of the gap in votes attained between the two major parties once the results have been finalised.
Grech referenced his party’s focused plans for Maltese and Gozitan localities as well as the plans set out for its MEPs and said that he would talk about them further into detail if the current political crisis was not ongoing.
He called for justice and liberty in the country to be upheld and empowered. He expressed his desire for people not to shy away from voicing their opinions, saying that “we have failed majorly as a country” if people continue to believe that their voices don’t count.
After remarking that arrogance is already embedded amongst those presently in power, he called upon voters to vote for their loved ones and their localities. He then concluded the interview by calling listeners to vote for the Nationalist Party, so that “we can begin healing our country.”
