Restoration works on the titular statue of St Cajetan of the Parish Church in Hamrun are to be carried out in the coming weeks.

Funds have been allocated by Community Malta for the restoration of the pedestal of the titular statue and to create a pedestal for a new statue to be used by the Immaculate Conception Musical Society within the locality of Hamrun.

The works will be done in collaboration between the Malta Arts Council and the Community Malta Agency, leading to further investment in the protection of national and religious heritage.

Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said that the Parish Church of St Cajetan is a focal point not only for the Hamrun community but for all Maltese people, and the titular statue dedicated to the saint of this town undoubtedly has great significance in Malta’s culture.

Bonnici said that this investment aligns with the government's commitment to support the cultural traditions of communities to fully exploit the potential of those cultural expressions that are rooted in community-based activities.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri referred to the government's commitment to use its resources to remain close to the people, invest in communities, and cultural heritage.

He added that in the past year, Community Malta has provided over €2.5 million for socio-cultural or philanthropic projects.

“The Community Malta agency is working hand in hand with the community because with these works, the cultural and religious heritage enjoyed daily by the community will be protected,” Camilleri said.
