A Romanian woman was arrested for pickpocketing as she attempted to board a flight at the Malta International Airport, the police said.
The 41-year-old forms part of an international criminal organisation that carries out its crimes in tourist areas, using the presence of crowds as their weapon to steal from their victims.
The police said that between 8 and 23 June the woman carried out at least 20 thefts.
Her main targets were tourists in Valletta, Mdina and St Paul’s Bay.
The woman, the police said, stole some €7,000 in cash.
Her identity was established by police and the woman was arrested as she was to board a flight out of Malta last Thursday.
