The man who was seriously injured when a roof of a residence in Ghajsielem caved in last week died in hospital, the police said Friday.

The man, Sammy Bartolo, 51, of Ghajnsielem, man was critically injured yesterday week when the roof of a residence in Ghajsielem collapsed, with the result that he fell one storey.

The man was carrying out some work in the residence in Malta Street when the accident happened at 6.30pm.

He was given first assistance by members of the Civil Protection Department before being taken to Gozo Hospital and later transferred to Mater Dei Hospital with serious injuries.

He died in hospital on Friday.

Magistrate Simone Grech is leading an inquiry.
