The Police Force has denied allegations that there was any interference regarding the criminal procedures in the hospitals deal case.
In a report, MaltaToday quoted Labour Party insiders saying said that the gravest mistake made by Abela "was the decision to derail an investigation by the police into those individuals mentioned in the conclusions of the hospital's inquiry. They explained how he had directed senior police figures to not interrogate individuals mentioned in the inquiry, and instead have them all be charged in court, to ensure former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is not seen as the sole figure behind the fraudulent deal."
In a statement, the police made "reference to reports tied to criminal procedures taken over the past week. The police assisted the Attorney General in the prosecutions, and this according to legal procedure based on the conclusions of the magisterial inquiry. The Police Force categorically denies and allegation of interference."
Prime Minister Robert Abela had als denied that he had given instructions to police officers not to interrogate people who were named in the magisterial inquiry.
