The President emphasized the need for long-term and sustainable solutions and also spoke about the importance of diplomacy which addresses global challenges through dialogue, negotiation and compromise. She said that Malta, both in the U.N Security Council as well as in the leadership of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is spurring dialogue and initiatives to promote peace, security and global progress.

In light of this, the President reminded the youths that a small country like Malta is bringing about change on an international level and so praised initiatives like the MaltMUN which she said, “helps the youth to aspire for a diplomatic career and achieve wisdom and experience in leadership which can lead them to solve problems in a sustainable manner in the future.”

The President hosted a group of youth from the MaltMUN for an event of networking between Maltese and foreign delegates at San Anton Palace. The MaltMUN is an NGO led by the youth for the youth with the aim of cultivating excellence in the youth when it comes to debate, negotiation and public speaking.

The activity was done as part of an annual conference that sees the youths meeting for a discussion on matters of global importance, during which, they come up with ideas and long-term initiatives to address these problems and challenges.
