The executive chairman of the national broadcaster, PBS, has quit his post, the Times of Malta reported.
The news came amid a series of resignations in the past months.
It is yet to be established whether Sammut was forced out of his post, or whether he was compensated. The Culture Ministry said in a comment to the newspaper that the "working relationship" between PBS Ltd and Sammut will be terminated as from 30 September.
Sammut will officially remain the Executive Chairman until that date. He was appointed to the post in March 2021, and is believed to have gone on leave some weeks ago, leaving no successor.
The newspaper reported that the search for his substitute has started, but government plans to remove the role of executive chairman, and appoint a Chief Executive.
Sammut was believed to have clashed with former PBS Head of News Norma Saliba, leading to her resignation from the national broadcaster. She is now contesting for the role of Labour Party president.
