Malta's Sustainable Development Action Days will run from 18th September to 8th October as part of the European Sustainable Development Week featuring over 30 activities and initiatives across Malta and Gozo, organised by government bodies, voluntary organisations, the private sector, and individuals.

Sunday evening's event featured a variety of activities for all ages. Children enjoyed interactive storytelling about environmental conservation and a puppet show highlighting the dangers of single-use plastics and marine litter. Local football clubs teamed up with the Malta Football Association (MFA) to host a beach soccer tournament with six participating teams, while a bicycle track promoted sustainable transport options. The University of Malta Rowing Club were also present for the public to experience coastal rowing.

Representatives from the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), Ambjent Malta, Saving Our Blue, the Sustainable Development Directorate, Circular Economy Malta, InterConnect Malta, the Regulator for Energy and Water Services, Project Green, Wasteserv Malta, Water Services Corporation and the University of Malta's Department of Geosciences were present to provide information on sustainable development and key environmental topics. These included the impact of single-use plastics, the threat of invasive species, marine light pollution, and ways to adopt sustainable practices in everyday life while being mindful of the environment around us.

This year, Saving Our Blue introduced a Virtual Reality (VR) Mobile Unit, allowing visitors to explore Malta's seven marine protected areas virtually. The initiative also organised several cleanups, installed 52 beach ballot bins to reduce cigarette litter, and participated in various educational activities. In collaboration with Ambjent Malta, Saving Our Blue hosted educational boat trips, walks, and sessions at the Buskett Hub, where students learned about marine litter and the importance of preserving nature. Additionally, it engaged with almost 450 children through Skola Sajf and other summer school programs.

The public is encouraged to follow 'Saving Our Blue' and 'Sustainable Development Malta' on social media to stay informed and involved.
