The first edition of the 'Excellence in Construction Awards' has been launched the Ministry for Justice and Reform of the Construction Sector said, in what it describes as "an initiative that will be recognising those who are distinguishing themselves in the service they are offering in this sector".
Justice Minister Jonathan Attard said that this initiative is "more than just an awards programme", and said that it is "a commitment to recognise excellence, foster collaboration, and inspire future generations in the construction sector". He added that quality, innovation, and sustainability can lead to significant change in the sector.
Attard recognised QP's commitment to this initiative, which he said continues to promote higher standards in the sector, which he remarked is what the Ministry works for on a daily basis in tandem with various other involved entities.
He added that the government is committed to continue offering all possible tools for those of goodwill to work in a strong framework which promotes the construction sector, and emphasised the importance of respect for citizens. He said that work is underway so that the authorities continue to have a firm hand with those who do not adhere to good practices.
The Minister said that the government is working on various tracks, including the updating of laws and regulations that need to be reviewed, the introduction of laws and regulations in areas that have not been regulated before, and more effective assistance to third parties affected by construction.
The categories that will be awarded include: Award for Dedication to Sustainability, Award for Quality and Craftsmanship, Award for Training and Development, Award for Commitment to Wellbeing, Health and Safety, Award for Innovation, Research and Development, For Excellence in Demolition and Excavation Works, For Excellence in Infrastructure and Civil Works, For Excellence in Mechanical and Electrical Installations, For Excellence in Finishing Works, For the Contribution of Conservation in the Construction Industry, For the Most Professional and Respectful Contractor, and Contractor of the Year.
The Ministry said that the launch of the event was attended by representatives of the various entities and authorities which will be contributing to the activity, including the Occupational Health and Safety Authority, the Building and Construction Authority, the Chamber of Construction Management, the Association of Builders and Contractors, the Chamber of Engineers, and the Malta Development Association.
