The first shipment of Maltese tuna to China, raised and processed according to stringent standards and regulations, is an example of innovation leading to better commerce and trade links between the two countries, Prime Minister Robert Abela said.
Abela hoped that the partnership between Malta and China, represented by Malta Fish Farming and Shandong Marine Group, to be a success, with the Prime Minister explaining that this partnership is an example of how innovation can increase commerce and cooperation between the countries.
"This platform of cooperation doesn't only symbolize an economic collaboration but the power of ties between Malta and China. Together, we look forward to a future full of opportunities, prosperity, and more collaboration," Abela concluded.
The Prime Minister noted the sense of innovation in the aquaculture sector that will allow Maltese business to flourish in big markets, amongst them China. Faced with the reality of Malta continuing to export quality tuna, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of the highest standards and pointed out that the first shipment of Maltese tuna to China was sent last September involved much work to ensure that the Maltese product was in line with European and international standards as well as established environmental regulations.
Abela also noted how a similar process of exportation was launched for other fish-related products tying-in perfectly with the government's commitment to promote a circular economy and decrease food waste as much as possible and took the opportunity to stress the importance of sustainable operations which the government fully supports.
