The Fondazione Falcone is establishing a presence in Malta, with a diplomatic and cultural office located at 115 Santa Margerita Street, Siġġiewi.
Inside this office, it said, the foundation will be accessible to the international community and young people, through cultural, social, and popular initiatives. The Foundation aims to be an integral part of the reform process, "which is courageously pushed forward by Maltese civil society, with the support and example of Daphne Caruana Galizia's family," the foundation said in a statement.
The branch will be dedicated to the memory of Giovanni Falcone, Paolo Borsellino, Daphne Caruana Galizia, and all victims of organized crime.
The Foundation will be represented in Malta by Notary Robert Aquilina, who has been involved in the fight for truth and justice in Malta since the tragic day journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered.
The President of the Foundation, Professor Maria Falcone-sister of Magistrate Giovanni Falcone, who was assassinated by the Cosa Nostra on May 23, 1992-will attend the office inauguration, accompanied by founder and delegated adviser Vincenzo Di Fresco and general curator Alessandro de Lisi, the statement read. "Together, they oversee the opening of the Museo del Presente Giovanni Falcone e Paolo Borsellino and will also be present in the operations of the Malta office. Their visit to Malta from November 8 to 11 will be extraordinary, as this will be the institution's first location outside Italy, established by this leading Italian social culture institution against the mafia."
The Maltese office of Fondazione Falcone will be officially inaugurated by President of the Republic of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono, and blessed by the Archbishop of Malta, Charles Jude Scicluna, at an event on Sunday, November 10, starting at 6:15 p.m., the foundation said. "We invite all Maltese people of goodwill to join us on this journey by attending this event in Siġġiewi."
