Last preparations are being held for the grand musical production The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a musical by Disney Theatrical being produced for the first time in Malta at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre in Gozo. This musical, based on the 1996 Disney film and Victor Hugo's 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame tells the story of Quasimodo, the hunchbacked bell-ringer of Notre Dame, and his desire to one day be integrated in the outside world.
This musical, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and book by James Lapine, is being produced on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the newly rennovated Don Bosco Oratory Theatre. Following the special license granted from Music Theatre International of London, currently last rehearsals are being organised for this unique musical performance which is coinciding as well with the inauguration of the newly restored iconic cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.
The best local artists will be taking part, together with some special guest artists from Malta. Ludwig Galea will be interpreting the main part of Quasimodo, whist the young promising artist Krista Mercieca would be portraying the other main role of Esmeralda, together with a cast of about ninety other persons, including musicians, singers, choristers and dancers.
The opening night of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, will be this Saturday 9 November at 7.30pm, with a repeat performance this Sunday 10t November at 2.30pm (matinee show). Then there will be two other performances, one on Saturday 16 November at 7.30pm, and a last performance on Sunday 17 November at 5.30pm.
