Vittoriosa priest Fr John Avellino has taken to social media to lament the lack of attendance of parishioners for a concert that was organised on Saturday.
"One organises, spends money, brings over a choir from outside the parish and our people do not show up," he wrote on Facebook.
He was referring to a concert given by the Vox Dulcis Chorale choir held at Vittoriosa on Saturday, a one-hour activity during which the restored painting dedicated to Our Lady's Ascension was unveiled.
"I expected someone from the local council to turn up too, but nobody did," he said.
Few were the people from the St Lawrence parish to attend the concert, "something I do not understand," he said. "I thought the people who attended Mass would have stayed on. I was disappointed.... The great majority of the people who attended Mass left," he said, adding that historical information about the painting was also provided as part of the activity.
"One gets to lose heart and do nothing. We are hoping that Vittoriosa becomes the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2031. What culture? Where is our culture? What culture do we have in our locality?" he wrote.
