Another restoration project has been inaugurated at Palazzo Ferreria in Valletta, a palace that today houses the Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights.
This project, with an investment of €500,000, took just under a year to complete and involved extensive restoration and renovation work on the palace’s entrance, the internal courtyard, and several areas adjoining the courtyard.
The extensive work primarily focused on the structures of iron, wood, and even the tiles, with all these restored elements continuing to reflect the historical and architectural importance of this prestigious building.
This latest internal restoration project was inaugurated by Minister Michael Falzon in the presence of Permanent Secretary Mark Musù, among others. Also present was Professor Raymond Mangion, who has recently completed a book on the history of Palazzo Ferreria in Maltese, which was launched during the same occasion.
"Over the years, we have transformed this building from a foundry where swords and cannons leading to destruction were once made, into a palace where today hundreds of social justice measures are developed," stated the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon.
This project follows other projects carried out at this palace, through which the façade and the rest of the exterior were restored, and a beautiful lighting system was installed. This lighting system captivates anyone entering Valletta and often features in photographs published on various media platforms.
Special thanks were also given to several individuals who were instrumental in the completion of this project, including Clifford Schembri, Architect Charles Azzoppardi, and Engineer Roger Chetcuti.
