The Nationalist Party has no credibility when it speaks about the country's finances, the Labour Party said in a statement. The PN is trying to give the impression that the Government is failing in the country's economy and finances, while it is the Opposition which is failing one test after another in this sector.
The PN was not even capable of publishing a pre-budget document, the PL said. On the contrary, this year it did not even conclude this document after a summer working on it because the PN's proposals were devoid of substance. It did not even manage to issue a mere document of a few pages, let alone the ability of the PN to run the country's public finances.
It would be wiser for the PN leadership to concentrate, instead of focusing on interest on the national debt, which is under control, on how it will address financial issues within the same party. For example, the PN leadership needs to see how it will repay the millions in ċedoli which will start expiring soon and which are owed to the secret persons, the PL said.
The people are waiting for the Nationalist Party, which stresses so much on transparency, to publish the audited accounts as it is obliged by law and show what it is doing itself with the donations it is receiving, once its accounts have not been published for years.
A Labour government has a track record in economic and financial management, as well as one certificate after another from international credit rating agencies and the European Commission, the PL added. Whereas the Nationalist Party, whenever it deals with this subject, shows how much it cannot be trusted with the people's money because it failed in managing its party finances and with the politics of austerity it wants to fail a country.
