Five people remanded in custody after pleading not guilty over assault

Five people were remanded in custody after an assault of a 21-year-old woman in Paceville.

Three of the accused are women aged 17, 18 and 19, while the other two are men aged 23 and 26.

The assault had been captured on a video that is circulating online, and shows the victim being punched while on the ground, and dragged by her hair.

Police had been alerted to the incident when a report came in of an unconscious woman in the early hours of the morning on December 29. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

All five of the accused pleaded not guilty, and none were granted bail.

The case is being prosecuted by Inspector Roderick Attard and Attorney General lawyer Ylenia-Marie Abela.  

lawyer David Bonello is acting for the minor, lawyers Adreana Zammit, Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri are representing the other four of the accused. Lawyer Matthew Xuereb is appearing as parte civile for the victim.
