Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced the Birżebbuġa promenade regeneration project, which will cost €12 million and cover over 1,500m of the Birżebbuġa promenade.
This project, Abela said, is part of the government's continuing effort to boost quality investments.
The project will be administered by the Department of Public Works following the completion of the plans, with the involvement of students from the Faculty of Urban Environments within the University of Malta. The application process is ongoing Abela said on Wednesday.
He said that this project which will span over a kilometer and a half, will result in five open spaces; some new and some regenerated with a new cycle lane.
Abela said that through projects like these, the government is giving another "clear sign" that it will continue to increase quality investments. He noted that over the years Birżebbuġa shouldered the weight of industrial growth prompting the current administration to renew previous decisions to add value to the locality.
On his part Minister for Infrastructure Chris Bonett pointed out the number of projects, of which this is the latest, that offer a better urban environment for Maltese families, such as the Bugibba Piazza and Msida Creek projects. Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia said that the aim of the project is to return Birżebbuġa to its locals since "they paid a high price in the past."
