The top of the table clash between Floriana and Ħamrun Spartans played at the Tony Bezzina Stadium ended in a goaless draw. It was a match which never reached any high levels with both teams having few chances and finally the stalemate was a fair result.

This was a match between the Opening Round winners Floriana and the reigning Champions Ħamrun Spartans. The latter after a dismal Opening Round, have started the Closing Round with a bang, winning both matches and thus being the only team with maximum points.

Floriana unexpectedly lost their last match against Melita by a 2-0 scoreline whereas Ħamrun Spartans won their last match against Hibernians by the odd goal in three.

In their last match Ħamrun emerged winners against Floriana by a 2-1 score,  thus inflicting the first defeat on the Greens.

Floriana went on the offensive and on the 2nd minute they went near in taking an early lead when Jake Grech ventured forward but his shot on entering the area was blocked by Bonello.

Ħamrun responded in the 17th minute through a Camenzuli shot from the edge of the area which was turned over the bar by Mafoumbi. From the resultant corner a headed effort by Steve Borg just missed the target.

Eleven minutes from the end of the first half the Spartans once again near but Freitas shot from the distance went inches wide off the mark.

On resumption it was the Greens who created the first chance, once again through Jake Grech but his shot was turned into a corner by veteran goalkeeper Bonello.

Eder Bruno Domingos tried his luck from a direct free-kick which was deflected but Mafoumbi was on the alert turning the ball onto a corner.

For long stretches play was restricted to the midfield sector with neither team finding the way past the respective stubborn rearguards. With the final whistle handing both teams a point each leaving Ħamrun Spartans leading the standings with seven points from three matches.
