The 2024-2030 Strategy for Digital Education is a "directional" yet "urgent" plan that outlines the steps that must be taken by students and educators to ensure that Malta succeeds digital age, Minister for Education Clifton Grima said.

With the theme of this years' World Education Day being the ties between AI and Education, Grima referred to the 2024-2030 Strategy for Digital Education and said that "this document is a directional plan, a guide that represents the steps we need to take collectively to ensure that Malta succeeds in the digital era."

He continued that the strategy emphasizes the urgency for educators and students to prepare to tackle the complexities of the digital age in a responsible way.

The Ministry for Education said that in a visit to St Nicholas College, Grima distributed books to students. The visit coincided with the U.N's World Education Day on Friday.  It added that this was in line with an electoral pledge with the 5th and 6th year students receiving 2 books in Maltese and 2 in English.

The ministry said that this was done as part of the 'Books are children's friends' initiative aimed at promoting reading and kindling a love of reading amongst children. It pointed out that the books were ensured to be age-appropriate and on subjects that would interest the students.

The ministry said that the initiative is set to continue throughout this scholastic year, with books set to be handed out to fifth year classes of state, church and independent schools. It said that since its launch, the initiative reached 17,210 students, with the National Literacy Agency distributing 68,840 books, so far.
