It has become evident that the government has lost all control, and that it has big internal problems which have led it to react by personally attacking everyone who disagrees with it, Nationalist Party Leader Bernard Grech said Wednesday.

Interviewed on the PN's media, Grech that when the government conducts such attacks, "they are confirming that we are on the right side". He continued that such attacks are a confirmation that what the PN is saying is right and that the government is buckling under the criticism.

He added that the government is understanding that people are slowly turning to the PN, and so the Opposition is committed to remaining calm and continuing its work. "No one is above the people... We will continue consulting... We will continue working for the people."

The PN Leader stated that during the parliamentary session on Tuesday, during which the magisterial inquiry reform was debated, it was made clear that the government led by Prime Minister Robert Abela has "locked itself away in an ivory tower" and is only interested in seeing to its own interests.

Speaking about the proposed magisterial inquiry amendments, Grech remarked that the changes were proposed to protect the wrongdoing enacted by the Labour Party, while the PN is committed to helping the people and offering solutions. He added that the people have lost faith that the government will ever interest itself in the people and be on their side, and so the people are looking to the Opposition for the needed help.

Moving to the topic of the cost of living, Grech said that the rising cost of living is impacting everyone. "I go to the store, and people talk to me, and they all talk about how the prices always keep rising," he said. He continued that the prices keep rising because the government is not addressing the issue, but rather the government itself continues to contribute to the issue and that instead of trying to help businesses find a way to alleviate some of the pressure on them, it adds on to the pressure.

Grech said that the PN will be discussing the issue of the rising cost of living in parliament on Thursday, as he continued that the PN will be offering the government the solutions that it has continued to propose. The Opposition Leader stated that a nationalist government under his leadership would be implementing those same solutions and measures into the country's economic plan in order to assist both consumers and businesses. "We have a social and moral obligation to do this," he commented, "we cannot leave people to float by themselves."

"Those who stole the people's money do not understand what it means to face the rising cost of living... They do not understand that pressure," he said. Grech continued that on the other hand, workers who have to work more hours to keep up with rising costs, get caught up in traffic, and do not receive service at the hospital, understand what the rising costs mean.

Grech commented that Abela and the government are focused on protecting their own interests, "but the PN is focused on helping the people and addressing their issues".

The PN Leader stated that it is important for a person to work because work is a source of dignity and gives people a routine as well as satisfaction that they are doing something and earning for their family, but he added that it cannot be that a person only works, as he spoke of the importance of people having time for themselves and those close to them.

He said that when Abela "goes to parliament and boasts of numbers", many people do not feel the impact of such numbers. Grech said that people have the right not to worry about how they will make due at the end of the month, and that they deserve to have access to medicine which they need.

Grech stated that when the PN's motion is being discussed in parliament on Thursday, the Opposition will be providing the government with "a number of examples, facts, and realities," which Grech commented the government wants to continue ignoring.

He remarked that not only has the government "failed to address the issue of poverty," it has actually added on to the issue by "creating more poverty".

"There is a reality in this country that there are those who are suffering in silence, and Robert Abela does not see this as he remains locked away in an ivory tower... This is not an issue which can be solved with one or two proposals, but in the end the economic model is what needs to change. The government does not want to do this, it wants to keep importing thousands of non-EU foreign workers in order to continue growing consumption and the economy... It does not want to create quality jobs or attract quality investment, as it continues to lower the country's international reputation."

Grech said that the country and the people's money needs to be used to help those in need and attract investment. He continued that the government does not want to do anything to help the people.

The Opposition Leader concluded that regardless of when the next election comes, "Whether it be in six months, a year, or two years," the people will find a "prepared Nationalist Party".
