The Office of the President of Malta said that it is aware of several pages and profiles impersonating H.E. President Myriam Spiteri Debono on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

“These pages are not only using the President’s name and photos, but also using AI techniques to produce deepfake video content falsely attributing on-camera footage and comments to Her Excellency,” the President’s office said on social media.

“The Office of the President disassociates itself from any such content aimed at attracting people to financial investments, mainly crypto, that are fake and may lead to people falling victim to scams,” it added.

The office said that once aware of any such profiles and content it immediately reports such instances to the relevant authorities, for appropriate action to be taken.

“The Office of the President thanks all those who alert it to any such scams and urges everyone to remain vigilant so as not to fall victim,” it concluded.
