President Myriam Spiteri Debono and her husband Dr Anthony Spiteri Debono have departed from Malta for the United Kingdom, where the President will be addressing a debate organised by the Oxford Union on Tuesday, the Office of the President stated on Saturday.

The President's Office said that the Oxford Union debate is renowned as a historic debate which, over the years, has brought together leaders from around the world as well as thinkers and experts from various fields to participate in discussions on topical matters with members of the Oxford Union.

President Spiteri Debono will also be participating in a series of other meetings while visiting the United Kingdom, with the meetings focusing on the support provided by the Malta Community Chest Fund to patients who are in London for treatment. The Office of the President added that these meetings will also be attended by members of the office as well as officials of the MCCF.

The President is expected to return to Malta on the night between Wednesday and Thursday. Dr Francis Zammit Dimech will be serving as Acting President in her absence.
