During a meeting of the PN's Executive Committee held this evening, Charles Bonello was elected as the Party Nazzjonalista's Secretary General.
The Executive Committee elected Bonello following a vote in which he secured 84% of the votes cast. There were 56 votes in favour, 11 against, and three invalid votes.
Charles Bonello currently serves as the President of the Partit Nazzjonalista's College of Local Councillors and as a PN Local Councillor in Fgura. He has held various political roles under Nationalist administrations, including serving as Private Secretary to former Prime Minister and former PN Leader Lawrence Gonzi. He also contested the 2017 general election on behalf of the Partit Nazzjonalista.
He succeeds Michael Piccinino, who has held this position since July 2021. In August last year, Piccinino announced his intention to step down to contest the next general election. In fact, last December, he was approved as a Partit Nazzjonalista candidate for the upcoming general election.
The Partit Nazzjonalista's Executive Committee congratulated Charles Bonello on his appointment while expressing gratitude to Michael Piccinino for his work over the past four years.
PN Leader Bernard Grech also extended his best wishes to Charles Bonello for the work ahead and expressed his confidence that Bonello will build on the foundations laid by Michael Piccinino. With the support of all Partit Nazzjonalista officials, the PN will continue to renew and strengthen itself to offer the change that the country needs.
