Economy Minister Silvio Schembri, together with INDIS Malta, the National Development and Social Fund (NDSF), and the Dingli Local Council have inaugurated a new open space in Misraħ Santa Duminka in Dingli.

Located next to the Santa Duminka Chapel, this 800-square-metre site, which was previously abandoned, has been transformed into a recreational area for local families.

The square has been designed to respect Malta's landscape, featuring olive and cypress trees, a government statement said.

Schembri said that while INDIS Malta is primarily responsible for managing the country's industrial zones and allocating spaces for factories, it also supports various community projects by creating open spaces within villages or industrial areas.

This project is part of INDIS Malta's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, with similar projects also underway in Bulebel, Siġġiewi, and Qormi, along with restoration works in Żejtun, Kirkop, and Mellieħa.

"Projects like this align with Malta's Vision 2050, which aims to ensure a high quality of life for the Maltese people. We need more recreational spaces, where families can relax in a natural environment within their own communities," Schembri said.

CEO of INDIS Malta Jean Pierre Attard spoke of the organisation's commitment to giving back to the community.

"As a token of appreciation to the small village of Dingli, we have carried out this project. The square is equipped with durable solar panels that power the lighting, water pumps, irrigation system, and CCTV cameras," Attard said.

CEO of the NDSF Raymond Ellul said that this project is one of many green urban initiatives funded by the NDSF across Malta and Gozo.

"Our main goal is to enhance both the social and environmental landscape of the country for present and future generations," he said.

Dingli Mayor Raymond Schembri said that this long-held dream of the people of Dingli is now becoming a reality.

"A dream built on the needs and requests of local residents, providing them with more green spaces and improved facilities, such as parking around a secure recreational space," he said.
