A new recreation area has been officially inaugurated at St Vincent de Paul, as part of a project aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents.

A government statement said that this space includes a bocci pitch and a mini-golf course, designed to provide inclusive activities that encourage social interaction, physical exercise, and mental well-being among the elderly.

A group of students from St Catherine's School in Pembroke joined the residents for the inauguration, to enjoy the new facilities together.

"It was a heartwarming moment of intergenerational interaction, where children played with the elderly and shared experiences in a joyful and friendly atmosphere," the statement said, while also preserving Maltese traditions.

The bocci pitch features a 16.5-metre by five-metre sand playing area, while the mini-golf course covers an area of five meters by six meters.

The spaces have been designed to be accessible and comfortable for residents, particularly men who often enjoy participating in such activities.

To create a relaxing environment, benches and a gazebo have also been added, making this area an ideal place for residents to unwind and spend quality time with others, the statement said.

Parliamentary Secretary for Active Aging Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said that this project reflects the commitment to providing new opportunities for the elderly, not only in medical care but also through activities that promote an active and independent lifestyle.

"Every investment we make in St Vincent de Paul is aimed at improving the experience of those who live here. Physical and social activity is crucial for the well-being of the elderly, and with this recreation area, we are offering more spaces where they can enjoy an active life and a vibrant community," he said.

Agius Galea was accompanied at the inauguration by the CEO of St Vincent de Paul Jorgen Souness.

The statement said that this project complements other ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening services and infrastructure at St Vincent de Paul, ensuring that elderly residents have an increasingly accessible, comfortable, and high-quality environment.
