During court tesimonty in a case investigated by the Police regarding Identità and identity cards, it resulted that the allegation that 18,000 false identity cards had been issued was unfounded, the Labour Party said Wednesday.
The PN had based political attacks and also called for resignations following allegations that 18,000 fake idenmtity cards had been issued.
In the past hours, the PN media itself had to report that from prosecution testimony it resulted that there were only seven alleged cases, which were caught because the authorities were effective in detecting abuse before it was even reported in the press, the PL said.
The irony is that the same Nationalist MPs who have spent the past months repeating what now results to be unfounded allegations, which included Bernard Grech and Home Affairs spokesman Darren Carabott, have now gone silent. Even though they had known, for a long time, that their allegations were unfounded, the PL said.
It is a pity that even new PN MPs, as is Darren Carabott, were more interested in media exposure rather than seeking the truth. If Darren Carabott was and is so incompetent in his role as an opposition spokesperson, just imagine him as a cabinet minister, the PL said.
The least that Darren Carabott could do is to apologise to the hundreds of workers at Identita and to the people, it added.
