98% of Nationalist Party councillors have voted in favour of PN leader Alex Borg to remain the man in charge of the political party.

During the PN's General Council on Wednesday evening, 1,492 votes were cast to approve Alex Borg as the leader of the Nationalist Party, as obliged by the party's statute.

Alex Borg was the sole applicant seeking leadership over the PN this week.

With an approval rate of 98% from the PN's most passionate supporters, this means that Borg received 1,459 votes in favour and 27 votes against him retaining his position as PN leader.

The Nationalist Party's media wing, NET News, called this a "record-setting vote of confidence."

This vote took place a month and a half after the Labour Party won a record-setting fourth consecutive general election, with a 21,721-vote majority, less than nine months after Alex Borg was elected as leader of the Nationalist Party. Following this election result, the PN noted that it managed to reduce the PL's voter gap by around half while the PL rejoiced with yet another electoral victory while mentioning that this reduced gap is still the fourth-largest electoral win recorded since Maltese independence.

Borg became the PN's youngest ever leader in September 2025 when he bested Adrian Delia in this leadership race by a hair. Borg had attained just 44 more votes than Delia, who sought PN leadership for a second time in his political career.

After narrowly becoming PN leader last September, Borg has now received strong backing by the party's utmost supporters to remain in this post.
