20% of the Msida Creek project is complete, just over four months after work began, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works Chris Bonett said.
The work, which is divided into several sites, started in November 2024 and is progressing rapidly, with several phases already at an advanced stage, the government said.
Minister Chris Bonett highlighted the progress made in recent months and stated that the extensive consultation and planning process carried out before the project's commencement is bearing fruit. He said that a number of special arrangements and new routes introduced to ensure that while the necessary infrastructure works take place for Msida to benefit from this project, the inconvenience expected from a project of this scale is minimized.
He thanked the workers from Infrastructure Malta and Transport Malta for their coordination efforts to ensure that the area remains safely accessible, both for motorists and those using alternative transport. The minister expressed his satisfaction with the progress achieved so far and stated that "visits like today's demonstrate our commitment to implementing this project efficiently for the common good."
Meanwhile, the CEO of Infrastructure Malta, Steve Ellul, said that in the coming days, work is expected to begin on the last two pillars that will serve as the foundation for the flyover connecting Msida to Tal-Qroqq. At the same time, work is underway on a new bridge linking Msida's waterfront to the Pietà side. "The Msida Creek project represents an important step in improving Malta's road network and coastal infrastructure," Steve Ellul concluded.
Infrastructure Malta said that it is maintaining continuous contact with the local council and providing frequent updates through broadcasting and social media channels to keep the public informed about the latest developments related to this project.
