Aġenzija Żgħażagħ has hosted the fourth edition of the annual National Youth Organisations Conference. This year’s conference was themed around “Sustaining Quality for Youth Organisations.”
Through this conference, several youth organisations who work towards the social, personal, and civic development of youths were brought together to discuss how they can continue improving the quality of their work, and therefore, strengthen their impact within their respective communities.
This year’s edition also marked the 35th anniversary of Eurodesk – a European network which promotes opportunities for young people and professionals in youth work. The conference was noted to have offered a space for reflection and the exchange of ideas between those who interact with youth communities through support granted by Eurodesk, Erasmus+, and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
Thematic workshops were organised throughout the entire day. They enabled discussions on active youth participation, ethics within the organisations’ work, as well as training and support for workers and volunteers in organisations.
In addition, this conference was deemed as an “essential contribution” towards the preparations for the fourth European Youth Work Convention, which is being held in Malta next month.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, addressed the conference and commended the present youth organisations for their work and dedication. He also noted that the government has a “strong and clear” commitment towards promoting youths.
“We want to see the wealth we create be delivered concretely through opportunities which contribute to the growth and development of individuals, especially for our youths,” PS Azzopardi Tanti said.
Aġenzija Żgħażagħ’s CEO, Miriam Theuma, observed that youth organisations play an important role in their work with adolescents and young people. As such, she spoke positively of this conference in how it is supporting youth organisations in their functioning, by educating them about the tools they have at their disposal.
