The Labour Party welcomed the Vision Malta 2050, the basis of which was launched by the Government earlier today in Gozo, and which has already received broad support from various parties, including the business community, constituted bodies, and civil society.
"This is a positive sign that the country is ready to consolidate a common vision for the future," the PL said.
The PL said that Malta 2050 Vision is the natural path of what has been built since 2013 - when a Labour Government embarked on a clear and bold vision that brought strong economic growth, new jobs, and structural improvements in various areas of our country. This solid foundation now allows Malta to look boldly at a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient future.
The Labour Party said that it believes that since the country has a strong economy, because of the work done by the Government in recent years, the success of the country should not only be measured by economic growth, but by the quality of life of the people. This is a new concept that puts the citizen at the centre of the Government's work.
The Labour Party said it sees that the Vision should be a collective success, which as Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Robert Abela stressed this morning, we need to continue building on this success by giving a clear direction for the future. The vision was designed around four main pillars:
1. Sustainable economic growth
2. Accessible, citizen-centred services
3. Resilience and modern education
4. Smart use of land and sea.
"These pillars are underpinned by good governance, strategic funding, digital transformation, and a renewal of Malta's identity - elements that further strengthen the work already being done by a Labour Government in all areas such as infrastructure, health, and the social field."
The Labour Party believes that this Vision should be a process that brings all people together and not divide them - a national vision that unites the country on the basis of common aspirations and collective commitment.
"Once again it is the Labour Party that is visionary and looking forward with optimism to the future of our country, in order not only to address the challenges of today but to prepare the country for the children of today and tomorrow."
The Labour Party said it will continue to see Malta move forward with a vision, innovation and commitment to a better quality of life for all and at the same time continue to appeal to the public to take part in this journey for the optimistic and victorious future of our country.
