Statement that couples are buying 2 properties confirms government is out of touch with reality – PN

The claim that young couples are buying two properties instead of one is proof of how completely disconnected this Government is from the people's reality, the Nationalist Party said.

The PN was reacting to an article published in The Malta Independent on Sunday. Housing Authority CEO Matthew Zerafa had told this newsroom that the types of properties being constructed in Malta should be diversified to meet evolving contemporary needs, including that there is a growing trend that couples in a romantic relationship are buying two properties, rather than one.

The PN, in reaction, said that "everyone knows that the real situation is that, with ever-increasing prices, couples are struggling to afford even a single property, let alone two. How can this Government ever understand the problems people are facing in trying to keep up with the cost of living, when it isn't even aware of the reality people are living in?"

A new Nationalist Government will not bury its head in the sand, the PN said. The PN said that it recognises the reality and, in government, will ensure that measures are taken to provide affordable housing.
