Crescendo di Colori promises to be an extraordinary celebration of the richness and diversity of contemporary Maltese art. We invite the public to join us in honouring the creativity and talent of these exceptional artists.

About the artists

Charles Zammit is a distinguished Fine Arts graduate with a Master's in Educational Art, whose artistic career spans more than two decades. Initially celebrated for his work in photography, Charles later expanded his artistic practice to include painting and sculpture, earning recognition in these mediums both locally and internationally. His sculptural works, which incorporate materials such as clay, marble, limestone, iron, and wood, are often abstract, showcasing his deep engagement with form and texture. In contrast, his paintings remain predominantly figurative, reflecting his ability to navigate different styles and techniques seamlessly. As an educator, Charles is deeply committed to inspiring young artists, constantly pushing the boundaries of his own creativity. His work reflects both his academic background and his passion for continuously evolving as an artist.

Adrian Hudson, 37, is a self-taught artist whose journey back to art began in early 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Although Adrian had previously abandoned his passion for drawing after leaving secondary school, the lockdown period reignited his love for art, particularly for portraiture. Specialising in soft pastel portraits, Adrian focuses on capturing the subtleties of facial expressions to evoke specific emotions in each piece. Despite the challenges of restarting after a long hiatus, his work demonstrates impressive growth and maturity, thanks in part to guidance from fellow artists who encouraged him along the way. Adrian's portraits aim to express the complex layers of human emotion, inviting viewers to connect with the subject beyond the surface.

Frank Ancilleri, born in 1952, is a professional graphic artist and designer who has significantly transitioned into painting later in life. Frank's work is deeply rooted in realism, with a particular focus on local landscape scenes, portraits and the human figure. He regularly participates in en plein air painting sessions, where he captures the natural colours and atmosphere of Malta's landscapes. His preference for using oils, acrylics, watercolours and pastels reflects his versatility and dedication to capturing the authentic beauty of his subjects. Frank has exhibited his work locally and internationally, with his paintings now part of private collections worldwide. Through his work, Frank aims to share the essence of the Maltese landscape and the human experience, conveying both realism and a deep emotional connection to his subjects.

Steve Sciberras is an accomplished oil painter based in Mosta, specialising in the portrayal of the human form. His art is a celebration of the human body, exploring its beauty, vulnerability and emotional depth. Through his intimate nude figure paintings, Steve skilfully uses light, shadow and colour to convey the subtleties of human emotion, offering a raw and honest representation of the human experience. Each painting captures a moment of stillness, reflection or vulnerability, inviting the viewer into a personal and emotional dialogue with the subject. His work blends realism with a strong sense of atmosphere, inviting viewers to engage with the deeper layers of meaning within the paintings. Steve's artistic practice challenges traditional depictions of the human form, offering a contemporary interpretation that is both thought-provoking and visually captivating.

Stephen Fenech is a wildlife artist from Żejtun, whose love for the local countryside and its wildlife has deeply influenced his work. From a young age, Stephen developed a profound appreciation for Malta's landscapes and avian species, which he now seeks to capture in his art. A self-taught artist, Stephen employs various mediums, including acrylics, watercolours and oils, to vividly portray the natural world. His childhood experiences of exploring the countryside with his father laid the foundation for his commitment to wildlife art, and over the past two decades, he has participated in numerous exhibitions, both locally and abroad. Stephen's work celebrates the beauty of the Maltese landscape and its wildlife, striving to preserve these elements for future generations while sharing his passion for nature with the broader community.

Although a pharmacist by profession, Jason Fenech is a passionate self-taught artist who works primarily with chalk pastels, watercolours, charcoal and graphite. His artistic journey has been deeply influenced by his father's craftsmanship, particularly in the design and creation of furniture. This exposure to manual artistry sparked Jason's interest in creating detailed representations of nature and architecture. During the isolation of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, Jason found the time to dedicate himself fully to his art, focusing on the intricate details of animals and the Maltese countryside. Jason's work also draws inspiration from Malta's architectural heritage, reflecting the complexity and beauty of local stone carving, metal forging and wood sculpture. He credits much of his success to the encouragement of Philip Agius, a well-established Maltese artist, and the unwavering support of his family and friends.
