Seventeen local fireworks teams and an international fireworks company are preparing for the concluding night of the Malta International Fireworks Festival, on Wednesday 30 April, which will light up the Grand Harbour with stunning fireworks displays, including a synchronised pyrotechnical sequence with more than 500 drones.
On Tuesday morning, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg and Malta Tourism Authority CEO Carlo Micallef met with some of the teams setting up for Wednesday's finale. Organised by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), the festival is a celebration of the Maltese Islands' rich pyrotechnic heritage, blending tradition, creativity and entertainment.
Wednesday's show at the Grand Harbour, which will also mark the 21st anniversary of Malta's EU accession, will delight spectators with displays from 18 of the 85 fireworks teams and companies in this year's festival, including last year's winners Għaqda tan-Nar Kerċem. International company PyroEmotions will bring the festival to a close with a show using innovative fireworks drone technology, the likes of which have never been displayed in the Maltese Islands.
The winners of the 2025 Malta International Fireworks Festival will also be announced on Wednesday night, recognising the best performers of the competitive stages of the festival, held on 22 and 25 April, at the Grand Harbour. A third evening of the festival, on 27 April, was held in Nadur, Gozo.
New to the festival this year is the participation of local band clubs. Wednesday's audience will be entertained by Soċjetà Mużikali tal-Karmnu Balluta A.D. 1987.
Borg expressed appreciation to the Malta Tourism Authority, the Malta Pyrotechnic Association and all participants for their commitment to this event, attracting thousands of spectators, locals and tourists alike. The first three nights of the festival, which were streamed on the Visit Malta socials, drew more than 80,000 online viewers.
"The Malta Tourism Authority supports this annual festival as one of the principal events that visitors can enjoy in the Maltese Islands, encouraging the development of Malta's beloved pyrotechnic traditions. We will continue investing in the preservation and enrichment of our artistic, historical and cultural heritage, as the key elements that define the unique visitor experience of our islands," said Borg.
