Animal Welfare Commissioner decries luna park next to petting farm

The Office of the Commissioner for Animal Welfare stringly condemned the decision to once again allow the luna park to take place next door to the Ta' Qali petting far,

In a post on Facebook, Commissioner Alison Bezzina said it is highly disappointing that, once again, Indis - the government entity responsible for managing government-owned industrial parks and related facilities - has granted permission for the luna park to operate adjacent to a site designed to offer a safe and quiet environment for animals.

"While some efforts were made last year to reduce impact, these measures fall short of the standards required to safeguard animal welfare under such conditions," Alison Bezzina, Commissioner for Animal Welfare, said.

"I expect all Government entities involved - namely Indis, Project Green (which currently oversees the Petting Farm), and the Ministry for Agriculture (responsible for animal welfare) - to prioritise animal well-being and collaborate in identifying an alternative location for this event," she said.

Entertainment must never come at the expense of vulnerable animals and "once again I urge the authorities to act swiftly and responsibly in ensuring a solution that reflects the country's love for animals. I also encourage the public to voice its concerns and advocate for an alternative location."
