The Ministry for Social Policy and Children's Rights has continued to invest in more social agreements aimed at strengthening services offered to vulnerable individuals and families.

A social agreement was signed between the Ministry and Fondazzjoni Sebħ, which is run by the Church. Through this agreement, the service provided by Il-Milja, a shelter that hosts women and their children who are in danger due to domestic violence, will be guaranteed. Often, these are mothers who have no alternative place to go because of ongoing violence they are exposed to, the government said.

The Minister for Social Policy and Children's Rights, Michael Falzon, said that this signing amounts to funding of one and a half million euros over a span of three years. "This Government truly believes in justice and social mobility, where we want to ensure that everyone can live a better life without fear and unnecessary suffering," Minister Michael Falzon said.

This agreement will ensure the service of 12 units in total, which not only provide shelter but also emotional care and educational support for children, so they can keep up with their peers if they have missed school for some time.

Il-Milja is a "secondary stage shelter" that supports these individuals in living semi-independently, eventually helping them to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society, the government said.
