The Momentum Party has announced that it has been welcomed into the European Democratic Party.

Within the European Parliament, all elected MEPs stemming from the European Democrats (PDE/EDP) join the centre-left group, Renew Europe.

Partit Momentum said that it is "excited to bring focus on ethical politics, civic participation, good governance, and sustainability to a wider European stage."

"Together, we'll work towards a fairer, more sustainable, and citizen-centred Europe," Momentum said on this alignment.

The EDP expressed its delight for Malta's rising "new centrist voice" to join its political family, describing that the Momentum Party is bringing "fresh energy and clear vision to the Maltese political landscape and to the European project."

Momentum's Secretary General, Mark Camilleri Gambin, said that his party is proud to be joining the European Democrats and is looking forward to "contributing to the implementation of the authentic European values of peace, solidarity and justice in a world wracked by violence and injustice."

The EDP's Secretary General, French and Renew Europe MEP Sandro Gozi, commented that the Europe's deeply polarised political climate, "the entry of a centrist and reformist force like Momentum sends a hopeful message for the future of European democracy."

This news means that if any future candidate from the Momentum Party manages to break the mould and get elected as one of Malta's six Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), then they will be expected to join the Renew Europe group inside the European Parliament. Presently, PN MEPs join the European People's Party (EPP) while PL MEPs work with the Socialists and Democrats (S&D).

At the time of writing, Renew Europe has 75 of the 720 seats inside the European Parliament. It is presently the fifth largest group within the European Parliament.
