The National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE) and the General Workers' Union have signed a new collective agreement for NCPE employees, which will be in effect until 2030.

The agreement was signed by the Commissioner for the Promotion of Equality Renee Laiviera, and the Secretary of the GWU Section Kendrick Bondin, in the presence of the Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reforms Rebecca Buttigieg.

This collective agreement provides for improvements in salaries as well as in the working conditions of the Commission's employees, a government statement said.

Buttigieg said that the commitment of the Commission's employees to promoting equality is making a difference in the lives of people who have experienced discrimination.

She added that this agreement complements other agreements being concluded for various workers in the public service.

Commissioner Laiviera said that this agreement helps ensure that the Commission retains motivated and dedicated employees who carry out their duties, and addressing with professionalism issues related to equality and discrimination that can affect vulnerable groups.

Bondin spoke of his satisfaction that the agreement has been concluded and will enter into effect immediately, providing peace of mind to employees through improved salaries over the next five years.
