KM Malta Airlines has announced the launch of its inaugural flights between Malta and Istanbul, which took place on 2nd June 2025, "marking a significant milestone in the airline's network development."

The new route will operate three times weekly - on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays - connecting Malta to one of the world's most vibrant cultural and economic hubs and onwards, the airline said.

"The service enhances connectivity for both leisure and business travellers, offering seamless access to Istanbul and numerous onward destinations through KM Malta Airlines' strategic partnership with Turkish Airlines. This new route plays a key role in expanding Malta's international reach and supports the airline's mission of fostering stronger ties with major global markets for both passengers and trade.

"Istanbul, straddling both Europe and Asia, is a city rich in history, architecture, and culture. With iconic landmarks such as the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar, it offers travellers a unique blend of ancient tradition and modern dynamism."

As a major international transit hub, Istanbul also provides Maltese travellers with more accessible connections to Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.

"Turkish Airlines has placed its codeshare on KM Malta Airlines flights, enhancing accessibility for both point-to-point and connecting passengers. Likewise, KM Malta Airlines' code appears on select Turkish Airlines flights beyond Istanbul, offering passengers expanded travel options across the globe. The Malta-Istanbul route is now exclusively operated by KM Malta Airlines and Turkish Airlines, with services accommodating both passengers and cargo."

David G Curmi, Executive Chairman of KM Malta Airlines commented: "This new route reflects our vision to offer greater choice and convenience for our customers, while reinforcing Malta's position as a key gateway between Europe and Asia. Istanbul is a wonderful, exciting city which we are extremely proud to now include in our operating network."
