The Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights, Alicia Bugeja Said, together with the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, inaugurated the opening of the first Cat Café in Żurrieq.
Alicia Bugeja Said said that through this cat café, the ministry continues to fulfill its electoral promises, including the establishment of more cat cafés and dog parks. She stated, "Projects like this play an important role in the care and protection of stray cats. Today we opened this beautiful space where visitors can spend time with these cats in a safe environment."
She also emphasized the need to promote this initiative in other localities. "I encourage more similar initiatives so that together we build a fairer future with greater awareness of animal rights. The protection of abandoned animals should be a priority for all of us," Bugeja Said concluded.
On Triq il-Belt Valletta, in Żurrieq, the Public Works Department carried out maintenance work at the Cat Café located in this area.
During a visit while the works were ongoing, the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, explained that the work being done in the area aims to create a better environment-not only for visitors who come to feed or spend time with the cats, but also for the cats themselves.
The Mayor of Żurrieq, Rita Grima, stated, "Today is a special occasion for the Żurrieq Local Council, as after many months of work, we have opened the first Cat Café managed by the local council. I thank the various entities, volunteers, Councillor Marisa D'Amato, as well as Executive Secretary Josianne Cilia Munford, because without their efforts we wouldn't have been able to launch this project."
She also said, "We will welcome stray cats here. There is a room for when the cats are neutered, and a space where cat feeders can come to feed these creatures and spend some time with them. I proudly say this is yet another project delivered by the local council."
