An activity was organised at Marsascala Primary School to raise awareness about animal welfare with young students. The Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights, Alicia Bugeja Said, was present for this activity and praised the school for this initiative where students are learning about how to properly care for animals from a young age.

PS Bugeja Said spoke to the children present and stressed the importance of treating animals with love and respect. She also told them to consider adopting animals when they feel the desire to bring a pet home.

The Parliamentary Secretary then shared some of the work being carried out by the Department for Animal Welfare, and also explained what one should do when they find an animal that appears to be either injured or lost.

"Change starts at a young age," she said, "When we teach children to love and care for animals, we are building a more respectable society."

Also present at this event was the Deputy Mayor of Marsascala, Janice Falzon. She praised the school's environment, noting that it featured a dedicated area where students can spend time with animals.

"This area not only offers a space for children to play, but also helps them better understand the needs of animals," Falzon said.

During the event, the children were also given educational books on animal welfare which were provided by the Office of the Commissioner for Animal Rights.
