The Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School (GCHSS) on Monday officially launched its prospectus for the 2025-2026 academic year, introducing new courses and reaffirming its commitment to inclusive student- centered education.

Presenting it, the Minister for Education, Sports, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima emphasised the institution's focus on nurturing student potential through tailored academic pathways.

Describing GCHSS as one of Malta's most well-known Sixth Forms, Minister Grima noted that the new prospectus reflects the diverse aspirations and abilities of prospective students. "This is a prospectus that places the student at the centre, to reflect their aspirations, and is designed around the needs of the prospective GCHSS student," said Minister Grima. He added that the prospectus builds on the school's mission to help students reach their full academic and personal potential.

Head of School Anna Spiteri Meilak explained that the 2025-2026 edition includes two newly introduced courses as part of the school's ongoing efforts to expand opportunities for students. While the exact titles of these new courses were not specified in the announcement, they form part of a broader offering that includes both traditional and specialised academic routes.

The prospectus outlines six primary programmes aimed at catering to students from different academic backgrounds and with varying career goals. Among the flagship offerings is the Matriculation Certificate (MC) course, which provides students with the necessary qualifications- at Intermediate and Advanced levels - to progress to the University of Malta.

Another major programme, the Advanced/Intermediate/Ordinary (AIO) course, offers a flexible curriculum for students who may not necessarily intend to pursue university education. It is especially suitable for those seeking to improve their qualifications or meet job requirements.

Also highlighted is the Individual Programme of Study for Adult Students (IPAL), formerly known as 'The Course for those over 18'. This course is aimed at mature students looking to continue or resume their education in a supportive environment.

For students aiming to strengthen their science background, the Medical Science and Science Specialised Study Programme (MSSSP) offers intensive Advanced level study in Biology and Chemistry. Meanwhile, the National Youth Sports Programme (NYSP) allows students to pursue academic studies while remaining active in sports.

The GEM16+ programme caters to students who have obtained only one subject and wish to continue their academic journey. This one-year programme offers core curriculum education alongside personalised academic support.

Permanent Secretary Matthew Vella described the 2025-2026 prospectus as a reflection of the Ministry's wider educational vision. "This document offers concrete opportunities for students to develop their skills and prepare for global challenges," he said. "It also reflects the Ministry's strong commitment to an inclusive and responsible higher education."

In addition to academic options, the GCHSS experience is enriched by a variety of informal programmes and extracurricular activities, all aimed at fostering holistic student development. Students interested in joining are encouraged to attend the school's open day on Friday 13th June, where they will have the opportunity to speak with the Guidance and Counselling team for tailored advice.

Applications for courses open on 21st July 2025.
