Cyclist dies in Marsascala accident

A cyclist has died in a traffic accident involving a van and a car in Marsascala on Thursday morning.

The cyclist is a 67-year-old man from Zejtun, the police said. He died on site.

The police said the accident took place in Villabate Street at 10am.

No details about the cyclist are available as yet.

The van, a Peugeot Partner, was being driven by a 38-year-old man from the Ivory Coast and resident in Marsa. He was unhurt.

The car, a Nissam March, was being driven by a 43-year-old Italian man. A woman, also Italian and aged 38, who was riding as a passenger, was taken to hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia is leading an inquiry.
