A six year old boy died, having been found unconscious in a swimming pool after wandering away from relatives, the police said.

At around 5.30pm on Sunday, the Police were informed that assistance was needed in Triq San Ġwann, Naxxar.

The Police went to the scene where, from preliminary investigations, it resulted that the six-year-old boy, while with some relatives in fields they own in the area, started walking around and disappeared. When they realized, they began searching for him and immediately informed the Police.

Several Police units were notified and began searching the surrounding area. After some time, with the use of a police drone, the boy was spotted unconscious in the swimming pool of another residence.

He was given first aid by Police officers, with a medical team assisting shortly afterward.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital, but unfortunately, he later lost his life.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry, while the Police are continuing their investigations into the case.
