During a visit to the Ħal Far quartermile complex, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, observed ongoing construction work at the site. The project includes the resurfacing of the old quarter-mile track area and other essential development work, the government said in a statement.

"This infrastructure is crucial for eventually establishing a proper car racing track," explained Minister Grima. He noted that during the works, it was discovered that the existing foundations were not suitable for the planned facilities. "As a result, efforts are underway to lay the necessary foundations. It is evident that significant work is being done, and I look forward to delivering yet another promise made to the sporting public and motorsport enthusiasts," the Minister added.

Minister Grima reviewed the documentation process being maintained to keep an official record of the work, and he observed the concreting process of the road surface that will be used as the quarter-mile race track. Currently, robust walls are also being constructed to international standards to ensure the safety of drivers participating in events, in line with the facility's permit approved by the Planning Authority.

The minister was also briefed on the ongoing processes leading to upcoming works, including the construction of buildings within the complex using stone and concrete. Preparations are underway for the issuance of tenders for mechanical and electrical works, finishing, and the procurement of necessary equipment, tools, and ancillary items. These are essential for the facility to eventually achieve accreditation from the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the statement said.

Minister Grima reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to ensuring that the Ħal Far quarter mile facility meets the highest standards, as promised. He also thanked the Board of the National Development and Social Fund (NDSF) for its financial support, which enabled the project to commence and continue as planned.
