A new Active Ageing Centre has been inaugurated in Senglea, the Parliamentary Secretariats for Active Ageing and Local Government stated on Tuesday, as they added that this centre is operating from a renovated and modern space as part of a regeneration project in the locality.

Active Ageing Parliamentary Secretary Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said that this centre does not just bring an essential service closer to residents, but also creates a space where the elderly can learn new skills and continue to actively contribute to society in a modern environment. He spoke of the commitment that such centres will continue to be a pillar of preventive care and social involvement in every locality.

Local Government Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that seniors are at the heart of such centres, as she spoke of how these centres offer a space where seniors can stay active, learn, and build new friendships. She said that the new facility in Senglea is an example of how regeneration projects can create valuable spaces in the community, as she added that this is an example of how local councils can change people’s lives for the better.

The Parliamentary Secretariats stated that Active Ageing and Community Care currently has 35 Active Ageing Centres across Malta and Gozo, regularly attracting around 2,500 members. They added that the programmes of these centres include physical exercise sessions, crafts, and cultural outings.

The Secretariats said that the Senglea Active Ageing Centre will be open from Monday to Thursday between 7 AM and 3:15 PM.
