A man died on Tuesday afternoon after being squashed against a wall by a bus at the Floriana's Park and Ride, police said.

The man, aged 63 of Naxxar, was trapped between the side of the bus, a Mercedes Citaro, which for some reason moved on its own while it was parked, and the wall, the police said.

The victim was later identified as Karmenu Muscat, a bus driver.

The man was taken to hospital where he was certified dead.

The accident took place at 1.45pm.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud is leading an inquiry.

Officials of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority are assisting the police in their investigations.

This is the fifth traffic fatality in the last 5 days, the 16th of the year.
