A "serious police commissioner" would investigate Minister Silvio Schembri following the information that emerged in a report by the Standards Commissioner, Fondazzione Falcone's representative in Malta Robert Aquilina has said.
A complaint filed with the Standards Commissioner over constituency offices held by Minister Silvio Schembri was deemed to be 'unfounded', the Commissioner said in a report. However, regarding one of his offices, the Commissioner noted that the rent for this property amounts to €3.50 per day, or €319.38 every three months.
In a statement, Robert Aquilina said that the report "revealed the fact that the Minister pays only €3.50 per day in rent for an office located on one of the main roads in Siġġiewi. Commissioner Azzopardi stated that this is a low sum for a commercial property. No one in Malta believes that the real rental value of such an office is the paltry sum of €3.50. This is a serious fact and raises major suspicions."
"In light of what we have learned from the report published today by the Commissioner for Standards in Public Life, if we had a serious Police Commissioner, he would tonight summon Silvio Schembri to give explanations about his actions, his assets, and the buildings he uses," Aquilina said.
