Gordon Caruana wins third edition of DTL Grand Prix

The third edition of the Grand Prix in the DTL discipline concluded last weekend at the Bidnija ranges, with Gordon Caruana emerging as overall winner. Caruana showcased remarkable consistency across the two-day competition, amassing 568 points and breaking 193 clay targets out of 200.

This prestigious annual clay shooting event has quickly established itself as a highlight on the local calendar. The inaugural edition was won by Martin Jeminson, while the second edition saw victory for Sean Garnisi.

The event, held on Saturday, 23 August, and Sunday, 24 August, attracted 40 shooters, each competing across 200 targets.

Daily Standouts

Saturday’s top shooter was John Rapa, who registered 289 points with 99 targets hit. On Sunday, Roderick Vella claimed the day’s honours, scoring 287 points and hitting 97 targets.

Class A

In Class A, Gordon Caruana secured first place, with Roderick Vella taking second. The contest for third was decided in dramatic fashion, as John Rapa and Sean Garnisi battled it out in a tense shoot-off.  During the shoot-off both shooters obtained 72 points. A dramatic single-shot decider followed, where Rapa edged ahead, hitting 25 targets against Garnisi’s 24 targets to clinch third place.

Class B

Competition was equally fierce in Class B, where Mark Sammut claimed top honours, followed by Charlie Camilleri in second. The fight for third place required a shoot-off involving Anthony Buhagiar, Joe Attard, and Brandon Vella. Buhagiar held his nerve to prevail and secure the final podium spot.

Class C

In Class C, Jeremy Vassallo delivered a commanding performance to finish first, with Chris Vella and John Vella placing second and third respectively.

John Rapa – 556 points / 190 targets

Class B

Mark Sammut – 555 points / 191 targets

Charlie Camilleri – 551 points / 189 targets

Chris Vella – 513 points / 179 targets

John Vella – 493 points / 168 targets

Veterans class

Emmanuel Grima – 542 points / 187 targets

Joseph Attard – 535 points / 182 targets
