The close election result has left the PN divided in two, the Labour Party has said.
The Labour Party congratulated Alex Borg on being appointed leader of the Nationalist Party.
"After three months of preparation, this election was affected by a strange delay in announcing the result, a recount of votes and clashes between the people of the two contestants who ended up in an attack on journalists outside the Dar Ċentrali. A surreal situation described by key observers as a total farce."
"During the process, the Nationalist Party remained silent until 4 a.m. when it said the difference between Alex Borg and Adrian Delia was 44 votes. This result leaves the Nationalist Party in chaos, divided by exactly into two."
"With the second consecutive defeat for Delia, the choice fell on a weak leader who does not have the support of 6 out of 10 Nationalist Party tesserati," the PL said.
"A leader who has no position on anything and who is more inclined to please everyone, as the attached video shows. A leadership of a party in Opposition goes beyond Facebook campaigns. "
"Alex Borg is an extension of Bernard Grech, has no control over extremist MPs and is a guarantee of more instability within the Nationalist Party."
